Empathy and trust have been systematically reduced by the environments in which we live and work. Therefore, to create meaningful places, we must remember to prioritize reciprocity over authority. To be empathetic means understanding the user’s experience inwardly in an emotional sense and developing a mechanism through this understanding that translates to the physical realm. Buildings, especially our homes, are a significant part of our lives. Therefore, based on the theory of situationism, changes in human behavior resulting from the situation we find ourselves in. Thus, our built environment, in turn, affects us. As designers, we ask, how do we create spaces that are physical manifestations of people’s needs? Most importantly, how do we listen?
